Norman, Tenor - Founder Member and former Chair
Why did you join the choir?
I joined the choir after seeing an advert from Age U.K.
How was your first rehearsal?
There were about 10 people at the inaugural meeting where it was agreed to hold our first rehearsal at The Music Service in Walthamstow.
As far as I remember, there was no accompanist, Marie Claude led with a few simple songs.
What changes have you seen in the last 10 years?
Very soon funding was withdrawn and we decided to ‘go it alone’ and self fund.
That was the first major change and over the years the choir has grown as we became better known and our repertoire grew.
What is your proudest/fondest memory of the choir?
I think the proudest moment was deciding not to give up when funding was withdrawn and commit to carry on! I have many fond memories of performances.
One being our first performance at The Rose and Crown. A truly community event where so many people joined in.
How, if at all, has the choir impacted your day to day life?
The choir has given me an outlet for singing I might not otherwise have. I have made many friends and been given a focus for Monday evenings.
What are your hopes for the future?
I hope the choir continues to retain its community focus and reach out to more vulnerable people in the community.
Long may it continue.
